Marathon at SMK Telok Kumbar

The latest picture of me with my friends

On 14th of February, my school SMKTK hold a marathon. It started at 8.00 am and lasted at about 11.30 am. As always, I was feeling nervous and scared as I always slow at running. Mother only said that I should do my best and try to be one of the first 20s. The marathon works this way; Category 1 which consists of Form 4, 5 and 6; Category 2 - From 2 and 3 and finally category 3, Form 1. It started with the girls from Category 3 (Form 1) and then the boys. Then it worked the same way as for Category 2 and 1. Whoever arrived first 20 for each boys and girls received a present.
When the girls's turn for Category 1, I was hoping to make mother proud. For your knowledge, I was not running my full energy out. I walked more than running. I thought that I was never going to make it on time. I walked fast on my own, looking at the blue sea at my left side and the beautiful villages around me. My mind remembered when I was walking super fast through Queens Park to go to school at Shawlands from Govanhill. I smiled when I remembered it all.
First, the boys from Category 1 past me. They were pretty fast, I was impressed. Later, I walked as fast as my legs could take me past the tired contestants. I was glad when I was able to see the school building again. I ran to the school although it was not really fast.
Surprisingly, I was the 18th contestant for girls from Category 1. I was pleased and so happy with joy. I quickly searched for mother and found her at the school canteen. I told her that I'm the 18th and she smiled so proudly that made me hugged and kissed her. I do not care if the other students saw us. I achieved something that I never thought of achieving for which running has been my worst fear.
